Considering that I just looked back at the best films of 2016, it is now time to look back on the worst movies to be released in 2016. The numbers on this list are entirely arbitrary because it does not matter where they fall on this list if it is on this list it did something wrong.
Like the best list, this is the part where I mention the films that for various reasons fell just short of making the top ten.
While Duncan Jones did direct the movie well, the movie was “Lord of the Rings” or “Game of Thrones” lite. Although, I do want to see the high fantasy version of “The Ten Commandments” that they set up at the end of the movie.
Like “Warcraft” this movie was directed well, and it was a good adaptation of the game the movie. It just was not a good movie, especially considering the talent involved in the film.
This movie was an awful remake; it was too reverential of the original. And frankly, there was something in there that could have satirized sexism, but it was misguided and came across as a tongue that is not in cheek.
The Top Ten Worst Movies of 2016
This movie is proof that Hollywood needs to stop adapting YA books because everything they have made since “The Hunger Games” came out has been “Hunger Games” lite. This is the worst of the bunch.
I can see the merit in doing another remake of “Ben-Hur,” at one point it was the second best-selling book in America (behind the Bible.) It was pointless, they show Christ and turn Ben-Hur into a Christ-esque figure. At least it provides a new angle on the story.
Cheap effects, bad action, bad actors and bad direction. Everything about this movie was just BAD!!
Contrary to its title there is no resurgence for “Independence Day.” It is easily the most unnecessary sequel in the history of movies.
A subpar biopic about an icon, that even Zoe Saldana’s performance (which would have been considered good in a great biopic) cannot save this garbage movie. By the way, the whole controversy surrounding this film was about Saldana’s Hispanic heritage, not her “shade.”
I don’t think I hated watching a movie this year as much as I hated watching “Why Him?” Nothing about this movie worked, considering the talent of those involved it was highly disappointing.
This movie was horrendous, crass for the sake of being crass. Sacha Baron Cohen is a skilled enough comedian to make even his worst movies watchable, but not this travesty.
This is an odd prequel/sequel to “Snow White and the Huntsman.” You don’t need a sequel to “Snow White” particularly when they take out Snow White. This movie has more or less killed any chance Chris Hemsworth had of being a full-fledged movie star.
This movie was just not funny, at all. This film was stacked with strong comedic talent, and it fell flat on its face. Nothing worked, the studio going bankrupt likely did not help matters.
Like “The Brothers Grimsby” crass for the sake of crass, and like “Masterminds” a sheer waste of the talents of all involved in the movie. Ewww!!!!!!
