‘Suicide Squad’ Petition

I saw this in The Wrap today; there is a change.org petition to shut down Rotten Tomatoes because “Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad” has poor ratings on the website. The petition states that “We need this site to be shut down because It’s Critics always give The DC Extended Universe movies unjust Bad Reviews.”

First and foremost, the thing that needs addressing is the fact that Rotten Tomatoes does not have critics, it does not review movies. Rotten Tomatoes is an aggregator that collects reviews from various outlets from across the country and the internet; then the site provides a score based on the percentage of “fresh” reviews collected. Only the reviews that are “fresh” are counted for the score on the sites “Tomatometer.”

A petition like this is pointless, just like similar petitions to get journalists fired for exercising their first amendment rights. These kinds of petitions are a product of the cry baby generation, the generation that is so politically correct everything offends them to some extent. It does not even have to be something big, i.e. Rotten Tomato scores. Well, guess what, suck it up and grow a pair.

Contrary to what this guy may think, the score does not reflect any bias. Not too long ago, Sony got in hot water because they created a fictional critic – David Manning – that they would use to manufacture positive press for their movies, everything from positive quotes to planting a positive review for “The Patriot.” No, critics do not have an anti-DC bias nor are they are not paid by Marvel or Disney to give negative reviews to the DC movies.  All the score reflects is a lack of “fresh” reviews and nothing more.

I cannot personally speak to the quality of “Suicide Squad” as I have not yet seen it, but if Marvel or Disney wants to pay me to trash “Suicide Squad,” starting bid is one million dollars.
