Academy Awards

This article was very last minute – remember that Mozart composed the overture to “Don Giovanni” the night before the premiere – but, here are my final predictions for the 88th Academy Awards held tonight. For the sake of brevity, I will only cover the major categories.

Best Picture: “Spotlight”

Best Director: Alejandro G. Inarritu

Best Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio

Best Actress: Brie Larson, it’s a lock!

Best Screenplay: “Ex Machina” – Original, “The Big Short” – Adapted.

Animated Feature: “Inside Out,” it’s a lock!

Supporting Actor: Sylvester Stallone

Supporting Actress: Alicia Vikander

Original Score: Ennio Morricone

Possible Upsets: None of these outcomes would be a shock to me.

Best Picture: “The Revenant”

Best Director: Adam Mckay, believe it or not

Best Actor: Eddie Redmayne, although this would be a 1980 US Olympic hockey team “miracle on ice” level upset

Best Screenplay: “Spotlight” – Original, “Room” – Adapted

Supporting Actor: Mark Rylance

Supporting Actress: Kate Winslet

Original Score: Johann Johannsson
