An event series surrounding the Watergate scandal is in the works at ABC.
As Deadline reports, the series will be written by Jon Mass, and will be told from the perspective of White House Counsel John Dean.
Dean’s book “The Nixon Defense: What He Knew and When He Knew It,” as well as Alden Duer Cohen’s “The Women of Watergate” and Jason Grote’s treatment “The System” will serve as the basis for the series.
The Watergate story is well known, mostly through from the perspective of the two reporters who broke the story, Bob Woodward, and Carl Bernstein. Woodward and Bernstein’s account of their investigation, “All the President’s Men,” became a seminal work of journalism and the film adaptation of “All the President’s Men” is the gold standard of movies about journalism.
What ABC’s forthcoming series has that something like “All the President’s Men” did not have is that the series is told from the perspective of someone from inside the Nixon administration. This Watergate series told from inside the Nixon camp will make the series an interesting watch.
