With a little less than one month until the much anticipated December 18th release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Variety, via The Wall Street Journal, is reporting that “The Force Awakens” has already broken presale records. As many may recall the overwhelming demand for the tickets crashed sites like Fandango and MovieTickets.com.
It is now being reported that the film has already generated $50 million from the presales, with both Fandango and MovieTickets.com reporting that “The Force Awakens” has sold the most presale tickets of any movie on their respective sites.
With “The Force Awakens” breaking the presale records, it only adds fuel to the box office speculation fire. While the $208 million opening of this summer’s “Jurassic World” is a tough act to follow, with the presale records that “The Force Awakens” is breaking, it will at the very least come close to the “Jurassic World” debut. At this time, it is almost a given that “The Force Awakens” will easily break the current record for a December Debut of $85 million set by “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” in 2012.
Will “Star Wars” have the force to surpass the record set by “Jurassic World” for debut and even the one set by “Avatar” for all time box office champ? We will just have to wait and see, and to quote Tom Petty “the waiting is the hardest part.”
