According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has announced yet another project that involves adapting a live-action film from material they had already used for an earlier animated feature. This time, it is the under the radar 1963 film The Sword in the Stone. In the interest of full disclosure, I am an Arthurian junkie, so anything that is based on Arthurian legend I okay with seeing on the silver screen. My fear about Disney doing so many of these is that the live-action adaptations will just be the animated films turned into a live action film without adding anything new to it. However, Disney has tapped Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman to write the movie. Cogman’s credits on Game of Thrones include in season 1, “Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things”, in season 2, “What Is Dead May Never Die”, in Season 3, “Kissed by Fire”, in season 4, “Oathkeeper” and “The Laws of Gods and Men”, and in season 5, “Kill the Boy” and “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken”. Thankfully, because Cogman carries an impressive resume with those episodes of Game of Thrones, I doubt that this will realize my fears about these live action adaptions. Although as an Arthurian junkie because Disney has tapped Cogman for the script I am curious to see where Disney goes with this version of The Sword in the Stone.
